The Marlowe
Website Design
A layered London destination where cocktails, dining, and nightlife unfold through atmosphere, architecture, and theatrical storytelling.
OverviewThe Marlowe was conceived as a hospitality concept built around anticipation, mood, and escape. Hidden behind a refined London façade, the venue was designed to feel less like a traditional cocktail bar and more like stepping into a private world suspended somewhere between old Soho glamour and cinematic fantasy.
The website experience explored the idea of progression through space — each floor revealing a completely different energy, rhythm, and emotional tone. Designed to feel immersive yet composed, large architectural illustrations become focal points throughout the interface, allowing users to visually navigate the venue floor by floor. Navigation systems were intentionally minimal and editorial, allowing atmosphere and composition to lead the experience naturally.
Rather than overwhelming users with information, the platform prioritises anticipation. Content is revealed gradually through layered storytelling, subtle motion, and carefully paced layouts that mirror the physical experience of moving through the building itself.
The atmosphere references hidden staircases, after-hours conversations, old theatre architecture, and the glamour of London nightlife at its most cinematic. Guests enter through a restrained and quietly luxurious foyer inspired by heritage London hotels and late-night private clubs. Above, the dining floor introduces warmth, conversation, and candlelit intimacy. At the very top, the experience transforms entirely into a dramatic cocktail bar saturated in crimson light, shadow, mirrored surfaces, and nocturnal energy.
Visually, the project combines stylised architectural illustration with art deco influence, heritage British detailing, and bold editorial composition. Rather than relying on realism, the building itself becomes symbolic.
The Marlowe ultimately positions itself somewhere between cocktail bar, supper club, and immersive social theatre — designed not simply as a place to drink, but as a place people disappear into for the night.
